Jones of Gwynfryn

JONES, THE VEN. WILLIAM-BASIL, of Gwynfryn, co. Cardigan, M.A., J.P., Archdeacon and Prebendary of York, and Vicar of Bishopsthorpe co. York, b.2 Jan 1822; m. 10 Sept 1856, Frances-Charlotte, 2nd. dau of the late Rev. Samuel Holworthy, vicar of Croxall, co. Derby. Archdeacon Jones was formerly a Fellow and Tutor of University Coll. Oxford, and a Prebendary of St. David's Cathedral.

Lineage

JOHN AB WILLIAM, of the parish of Llanbadarnfawr, co. Cardigan, Gentleman, living 1690, held lands in that parish which appear to have been acquired by his father in 1622, and which are still in possession of the family. His eldest son,

WILLIAM JOHN or JONES, m. 1690, Jane, 2nd dau. of James Jenkins, of the same parish, Gentleman. His son and heir,

WILLIAM JONES, m. dau. of Thomas Griffith Esq. of Penpompren, co. Cardigan. His son and heir,

WILLIAM JONES Esq. m. 1st. 1749, Jane, 2nd dau. and co-heir of Evan Watkin of Kynillmawr, in the same county, Gentleman, and had issue,
     WILLIAM
     Elizabeth, d. unm.
     Catherine, m. to Robert Lloyd
     Margaret, m. to Hugh Edward.
Mr. Jones m. 2ndly, 1772, Anne, dau. of - Lloyd, of Penbryn, in the same county, and Widow of Lewis Morris, the celebrated Welsh Antiquary (she d. 1785). He died 1780, and was s. in his estates by his eldest son,

WILLIAM JONES Esq., m. 1780, Mary, only dau. of the Rev. William Tilsley, of Llwydcoed, M.A. co. Montgomery, vicar of Llandinam, and Rector of Perstrowed, in that county (d. 1789) and had issue,

     II. Harry, b. 1784, d. young
     III. Henry Libanus, b. 1786; m. Isabella, dau. of Don Manuel-Jose Garcia, of the Argentine Republic, and had issue,

   I Mary, m. 1810, to John Kirshaw, Esq.; d. 1839, leaving issue.
Mr Jones d. 1796. His eldest son and heir,

WILLIAM TILSLEY JONES Esq., of Gwynfryn, J.P. and D.L., co. Cardigan, and high sheriff of that county 1838, b. 18 July 1782; m. 1st Jane, 2nd dau. of Henry Tickell Esq. of Leytonstone co. Essex, (d. 1822) and had issue
     WILLIAM BASIL, b. 1822, the present proprietor
Mr Jones m. 2ndly, 1826, Christiana, 4th dau. of the aforesaid Henry Tickell Esq. and d. 28 May 1861, having had the following issue by his 2nd wife,
