What are the Registers? |

Mae cofrestrau'r plwyf yn cofnodi pob un bedydd, priodas a chaledigaeth a chyflawnwyd yn eglwys y plwyf. Gorchmynnwyd yr eglwysi i gadw cofnodion fel hyn yn 1538, ond dim ond ychydig sy'n goroesi o'r adeg hynny. Cofrestr gynharaf Llangynfelyn yw'r un sy'n cofnodi gostegion a phriodasau o 1754 ymlaen. Mae bedyddiadau a chladdedigaethau ar gael o 1770 ymlaen. Hefyd, y mae sawl adysgrifau'r esgob (copïau a anfonwyd i'r esgob bob blwyddyn) o 1675 ymlaen. Rhaid nodi bod dim ond seremonïau a chyflawnwyd yn eglwys y plwyf dan yr Eglwys Sefydledig, sef Eglwys Loegr neu'r Eglwys yng Nghymru, sy'n cael eu cofnodi. Tebyg ni chofnodwyd y rhai i Anghydffurfwyr neu Gatholigion yma. Weithiau, y mae cofrestrau gwahanol i'r capeli. Rydym wedi ysgifennu erthygl mwy manwl ar y testun hwn. |

The parish registers contain a record of all baptisms, marriages and burials performed in the parish church. Churches were first ordered to keep such records in 1538, but few survive from that date. The earliest for Llangynfelyn are the banns and marriages from 1754. Baptisms and burials are available from 1770. In addition there are some 'Bishop's Transcripts' (copies sent annually to the Bishop) dating from 1675. Note that it is only ceremonies performed in the parish church under the Established Church, i.e. The Church of England/Church in Wales, that are recorded. Those for non-Conformist or Catholics may not be recorded here. Sometimes there are separate records for the various chapels etc. We have written a more detailed article on this subject. |
